Want a tattoo in Istanbul from a master who has spent 25+ years at the needle? Deniz Yapar Tattoo in Bakırköy (European side) is built around realism, portraits and cover-ups that hide an old tattoo for good. One-on-one work, fully sterile, English spoken. Send your idea on WhatsApp and we'll talk it through before you commit.
Istanbul has quietly become one of the better cities in the region to get serious ink. Between the old-city craft tradition and a new generation of artists, you can find almost any style here — but the gap between a careful master and a busy walk-in counter is wide. When you search for a tattoo in Istanbul, the questions that actually decide the outcome are simple: who is holding the machine, how clean is the room, and will the line still look right in fifteen years.
Deniz Yapar Tattoo is a single-artist studio in Bakırköy Cevizlik, on the European side and about twenty minutes from the city centre. Deniz himself has tattooed for more than 25 years and has worked out of this Bakırköy room for the last eleven, so most of what you see on the walls was healed and photographed by the same hands. Clients come in from all over the city — Beşiktaş, Şişli, Kadıköy, Üsküdar — and we regularly take travellers landing at Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). The consultation runs in English whenever you need it.
Below you'll find what separates a real Istanbul studio from a tourist counter, why Bakırköy is an easy neighbourhood to reach, exactly which work Deniz takes on (realism, portraits, cover-ups, botanical, tribal, permanent makeup, piercing), what it costs, and how to fit a tattoo into a short trip to the city.
Nothing here comes off a flash sheet. Bring a reference, an old photo of a relative for a portrait, or just a feeling, and Deniz draws the piece around your body and your idea. Twenty-five years of doing this means the design lands right the first time, before any ink touches skin.
Equipment is sterilised in an autoclave, needles are single-use and opened in front of you, and every station is wrapped fresh for each client. Inks are EU/FDA compliant. After this many years in one studio, hygiene is habit, not a checklist.
Deniz is the only artist in the room, with over two and a half decades of experience and a name built mainly on realism and portrait work, fine botanical pieces, tribal, and especially cover-ups — turning an old, faded or regretted tattoo into something you're glad to wear.
Visitors handle the whole thing in English: talking through the design, the session itself, and the aftercare. You'll always know what's about to happen and why before it does.
The studio sits in central Bakırköy on Ebüzziya Caddesi, European side — roughly twenty minutes from the city centre by the M1A metro or Marmaray, and a 40-60 minute taxi from either Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW).
Small work starts around ₺1,500 (roughly $45 USD). Mid-size pieces usually fall between ₺4,000 and ₺9,000. Larger compositions and cover-ups are priced by the hour. Whatever the number, you hear it after the design talk — never a surprise at the end.
